THE LOCAL AREA

The Manor House is only 300 yards from cliff paths that will take you to two separate clean golden sand beaches. Children and adults alike can sample the delights of rock pool fishing, exploring caves or surfing. By hiring a pony it is possible to ride cross-country to the beaches of Porth Joke and Holywell, without the need to cross any roads. Set in the heart of National Trust land, the holiday property is surrounded by magnificent walking country, and is an ideal base from which to explore Cornwall’s splendid countryside and unique history as well as its magnificent coastline. The immediate area is renowned for its superb sandy surfing beaches, punctuated by craggy headlands. Perranporth (named after the patron saint of tin miners) is 10 miles to the south, famous for its drifting sands which have twice buried the church. Lifeguards patrol the wide sandy beach in summer, and surf boards and wet suits can be hired by the day. Further along is St Agnes with its superb coastal views, while to the south lies Truro, the unofficial capital of Cornwall, offering good shops and restaurants, a splendid cathedral and The Royal Cornwall Museum with extensive displays of the county. The historic and family friendly Bowgie Inn is adjacent and offers a wide selection of food as well as local beers and ciders, and sports fans can enjoy Sky coverage. A general store (open in season) can be found nearby, and Crantock village and its shops are only 1 mile away. The lively resort of Newquay, with its cliffs honeycombed by numerous caves, is 5 miles across the estuary to the north. Public swimming pool with slides at Hendra Caravan Club about 10 minutes’ drive. Shops 1 mile.

Crantock BEach

A LARGE GOLDEN SANDy BEACH

This is typical Cornwall in all its glory located 300 meters down a cliff from The Manor House. The Atlantic Coast has a certain feel to it, with its rocky outcrops and lovely fine golden sand. Crantock beach is a great size with lots of access points for walkers, surfers and swimmers. The beach also has good parking that leads directly to the beach.

Among surfing, walking, beach games and swimming there are also plenty of caves to explore. Make sure you find the cave carvings... well worth a walk along the beach to find them. This beach is simply a must to visit and there is always plenty of room so it's never overcrowded.

A Local CLIFFTOP pub

This popular pub is a short walk away from The Manor House and also has amazing views overlooking Crantock beach. There are several bars and plenty of seating both inside and outside. The pub serves food from a large menu and there are games from the children, sport screening and a large terrace.

The atmosphere is warm & welcoming, the staff are friendly & efficient. Well worth a visit.

Acres of clifftop walks

For its sheer diversity of landscape, this relatively small stretch of Cornwall's north coast is hard to beat. Although only ten minutes by car from the popular seaside resort of Newquay, the stretch of headland around The Manor House offers you a relaxing haven of beaches, common land and coastline to explore.

Exposed rocky headlands sit alongside spectacular sandy beaches, this is popular walking country but is also perfect for surfing or making sandcastles. Look out for the hidden gem that is Porth Joke, a small cove that remains untouched by commercialism.

Visit West Pentire in the early summer to catch sight of spectacular displays of wild flowers.
